Hailing from the interiors of Thrissur, Kerala, Suneesh S. S. shares a deep emotional bond with nature. His artistic practice is a meditation on life in the natural world, evolving into a philosophical and spiritual exploration of the relationship between humans and the earth. Calling himself a visual storyteller, Suneesh draws parallels between a farmer tilling the soil and an earthworm burrowing for sustenance – both bound by the rhythms of existence.
His engagement with art began in childhood, shaped by his exposure to carpentry at home. The textures of wood and the tools of the trade became central to his creative experiments, carrying personal and cultural significance. His current project is a visual enquiry into traditional carpentry, deeply rooted in Kerala and his own family. Exploring his father’s carpentry toolbox, he reconnected with memories of watching wood transform under his father’s hands, an act merging craftsmanship with storytelling.
Suneesh’s ongoing series, which began as Wooden Album, has evolved into The Lost Fingerprint, reflecting on forgotten histories embedded in tools and materials. His perspective deepened after completing his Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts (ADFA) at Santiniketan following his BFA from Govt. College of Fine Arts, Thrissur. Repurposing discarded carpentry tools as painting surfaces, Suneesh gives voice to these silent objects, preserving stories of labour, tradition, and time.
