Santhi EN, an artist based in Irinjalakuda, Kerala, captures the changing landscapes of her childhood with child-like simplicity. She uses few colours and her protagonists, who are mostly dressed in white, stand out against her muted palette. In her recent works, Santhi portrays sacred groves and shrines, called Kāvû, that she was not allowed to visit as a child. Here, she expresses a sense of longing and anxiety caused by the loss of her ancestral home, childhood, and traditional rituals.
