Familiar objects and systems become starting points for questioning function, meaning and necessity in the work of Shailesh B. R. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA), Mysore, in 2013, followed by an MFA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S. University, Baroda, in 2015.
His practice begins with drawings that emerge from everyday thoughts, rituals, observations and imagined mechanisms. By simplifying, transforming and repurposing complex forms, he creates objects and situations that move between practical function and metaphor, often with a subtle sense of satire. His works engage with questions of knowledge, existence and the systems that shape human life, drawing on his interest in philosophy and the relationship between a form’s external appearance, function and deeper meanings.
Shailesh has participated in national and international exhibitions, art fairs and residencies. In 2024, he was selected for the Connect India dual residency with Lou Masduraud. He lives and works in Delhi NCR.
