A practicing artist for over two decades, Sajith Puthukkalavattom has participated in numerous exhibitions, including the National Exhibition of Art by the Lalitkala Akademi for four consecutive years from 2014. His works focus on nature – not in its beauty, but in its fragile complexity – often highlighting the destructive impact of greed.
Sajith’s paintings critically explore how unchecked urbanization and exploitation threaten ecosystems, pushing countless species toward extinction while jeopardizing human survival. His series, Hamartia, reflects on this irreversible loss, questioning what modern development has truly given us. Human greed ultimately destroys the habitat of countless species around us, destroying our own chance to exist, his art conveys. Since 2003, he has sought to communicate these concerns in a direct, accessible manner. His paintings are imbued with the same socio-political awareness that defines his worldview. The political stance of his works is rooted in the philosophy that we are increasingly turning this beautiful planet, perhaps the only planet in the universe that can produce and support life, into a wasteland.
Holding a National Diploma in Painting from M. G. University, Sajith is actively engaged in Kerala’s contemporary art scene. Beyond his artistic practice, he remains vocal on ecological and socio-political issues, ensuring his work serves as both a visual and intellectual discourse on the pressing concerns of our time.
