The artistic world of Mumbai-based Manoj Anand Sonavane reflects the evolving relationship between human life and mechanization. Hailing from Khed, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, and growing up in a rural setting, he witnessed firsthand the shift from traditional agriculture to industrialized processes, a transformation that deeply informs his visual language. His work explores how mechanization alters not only landscapes but also human behaviour, emotions, and our fundamental connection with nature.
His paintings employ geometric forms, mechanical structures, and mathematical precision, creating compositions that evoke the tension between organic life and industrial intervention. He introduces elements such as lines, points, and structured shapes, often playing with the contrast between natural and artificial rhythms. His concept of “Mechanism Theory” serves as a framework to explore how machines have not only replaced physical labour but also redefined the way we perceive reality itself.
Through his work, Sonavane examines the increasing detachment of human beings from their natural instincts, as technology gradually dictates social interactions and emotions. His paintings are both a reflection and a critique, an invitation to reconsider the balance between human agency and mechanized existence.
Sonavane has exhibited in major venues, including Jehangir Art Gallery and Devi Foundation, and remains committed to questioning the deeper implications of industrial progress through his art. He lives and works in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
