Viswathi Chemmanthatta, a visual artist from Malappuram, captures the landscapes and resilience of women in her community through her work. With a Bachelor’s in Painting from the Government College of Fine Arts and a Master’s in Printmaking from the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts, her art reflects her childhood memories and the people who shaped her. Often featuring imagery of animals and humans, she explores themes of survival and interdependence using a variety of mediums influenced by folk art and a miniature approach. Based in Ernakulam, Viswathi has exhibited in solo and group shows, including “Inheritors of the Earth” and “Lokame Tharavadu,” and has received accolades such as the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi artist grant.
