Delhi-based artist Gopa Roy, originally from Tripura, explores the intricate relationship between land, memory, labour, and materiality, drawing inspiration from her farming background. An MFA graduate from Santiniketan, she employs various mediums, including land art and installations, to investigate themes of agriculture, climate change, and ecology. Her transition from rural Tripura to urban Delhi significantly shapes her artistic narrative, contrasting the landscapes of her hometown with the urban environment. By incorporating local materials from Delhi and rice straw pulp from Tripura, Roy bridges her memories with her present realities, prompting reflection on the connection between memory and environment. Actively engaged in workshops and exhibitions, she participated in the Khoj ‘Peers Residency’ in 2023 and has received several accolades, including the 2024 Birla Award for painting and a National scholarship from the CCRT Ministry of Culture of India (2016-18).
