P. Gopinath (b. 1948, Ponnani, Kerala) is a founding member of the Cholamandal Artists’ Village and a key figure of the Madras Movement. He studied at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Madras, and initially worked in a naturalistic style before evolving a distinctive visual language. Drawing from classical Indian art, symbolism and literary sources, his work developed into semi-abstract compositions. Known for biomorphic forms and a vibrant palette, his paintings explore spatial structures through colour, tone, and rhythm. He has exhibited widely internationally, and his works are held in major collections.
